“It’s always on our shoulders” – Pep Guardiola about pressure on Manchester City to win the Champions League (Video)

Manchester City have been drawn to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinals, and if they win through, they will face either Paris Saint-Germain, or holders Bayern Munich in the semis.

It certainly won t be easy for them, and manager Pep Guardiola has recently revealed that he feels the pressure to win the club s first ever Champions League trophy.

In the other two quarterfinals, FC Porto will face Chelsea, while Real Madrid got their 2018 final opponents and 2019 winners, Liverpool.

White returns to Arsenal training following early exit from England camp

Ben White has resumed training with Arsenal following his early departure from England s World Cup camp in Qatar.

The 25-year-old returned home on November 30 for personal reasons without playing a single minute in any of England s three group matches.

Widespread reports suggested White s premature exit from England s Al Wakrah headquarters came after a falling out with assistant manager Steve Holland.

Commenting on those rumours earlier this week, Southgate said: The article written used words like alleged , so whoever wrote it didn t feel strongly enough it was correct.

Ben left for personal reasons. We made that very clear and I think especially in this day and age it is very important that a situation like that is respected.

Raphinha the bright spot in a bleak season for Bielsa and Leeds United

Marcelo Bielsa was typically honest as he faced questions about his future. After all, they were inevitable after the 7-0 battering by Manchester City earlier this week.

While Leeds fans might try to convince you it was a less frustrating match than their late 3-2 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, from the outside it looked as bleak as it gets.

Do you think that after suffering a 7-0 defeat I can discard the instability? Bielsa asked on Thursday. Do you think there s a coach that can t be sacked, who is unsackable? Do you think I m so vain that I think I can t be sacked?

Given everything Bielsa s done for Leeds in his four years, it might be fair enough to ponder whether he was untouchable or not, but Tuesday was grim.

It was Leeds joint-heaviest defeat…

Albrighton set for new Villa deal

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is set to open talks with Marc Albrighton over a new contract,.

The winger, who came through the ranks at Villa Park, signed his first professional contract in 2008 but has made just ninety-one first team appearances in those five-and-a-half years.

He was loaned to Championship side Wigan Atheltic earlier in the season, having spent much of the past two years out through injury.

Having made four appearances for the Latics, the 24 year old returned to his parent club, where he has racked up eleven outings in all competitions during this campaign.

The England U21 international will be hoping for a fourth Premier League start of the season as Villa travel to Cardiff City this evening.

Real Madrid to sign Palmeiras forward Endrick in ´biggest negotiation in Brazilian history´

Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Palmeiras forward Endrick, with the 16-year-old sensation set to join the Champions League holders in July 2024.

Endrick scored three goals in seven appearances as Palmeiras won the Brazilian top flight in 2022, having become the first player born in 2006 to play a Brasileiro game in October.

The left-footed attacker cannot officially join a European side until he turns 18 in July 2024, but that has not stopped several of the continent s biggest clubs – including Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea – from being credited with an interest in him.

However, Madrid have won the race for Endrick s signature after reportedly offering €70million for his services, while it has been suggested he will sign an initial three-yea…

Serie A Preview: Roma out to extend record start

Roma will be expecting to extend their record-breaking start to the Serie A season when they take on bottom club Chievo on Thursday.

Rudi Garcia s side became the first in Serie A history to make it nine wins from their opening nine fixtures when they overcame a Maicon red card to pick up a 1-0 victory at Udinese on Sunday, and they will be heavy favourites for the visit of Chievo, who have just one win to their name so far.

The strugglers have only ever beaten Roma on three previous occasions, but encouragingly for this week s visitors to the Stadio Olimpico two of those came last season as they won 1-0 both home and away.

With Roma five points clear of closest rivals Napoli, their position at the top of the league is under no threat, though the chasing pack will be k…

Ballon d´Or voting process changing after controversial Messi win

The Ballon d Or voting process will undergo a number of reforms ahead of the next ceremony, it was announced on Friday.

France Football editor-in-chief Pascal Ferre confirmed in L Equipe there will be a number of changes, with the most notable being an alignment with the European club season, as opposed to the traditional calendar year awards.

While there was little debate regarding Alexia Putellas  win in the Ballon d Or Femenin, Lionel Messi controversially won for a record seventh time in 2021, ahead of Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah.

Messi s performances with Argentina in their Copa America triumph propelled him to that win, despite – in the eyes of many voters – Lewandowski and Salah having stronger years on the whole.

As a result of th…

Bayern Munich 4-3 Manchester United: What Were The Main Talking Points As Erik Ten Hag’s Men Open Their Champions League Adventure With A Thriller In Munich?

Opening their Champions League adventure with plenty of pressure on their shoulders, Manchester United slumped to an action-packed 4-3 defeat away at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

While Erik ten Hag’s side might have started brightly at the Allianz, the Red Devils entered the half-time break 2-0 down as Leroy Sane and ex-Arsenal star Serge Gnabry bagged a quickfire brace.

Although big-money summer arrival Rasmus Hojlund might have bagged his first United goal just four minutes after returning from the interval, the midweek guests almost immediately came crashing back down to earth as the red-hot Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot just seconds later.

Despite it appearing that the German giants were cruising towards a major opening week statement in …

Allegri explains Juventus improvement and rules Bonucci out of the derby

Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus improvement in recent weeks is simply down to greater familiarity and understanding between himself and the players.

Allegri returned to Juve last May after two years away, with Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo each spending a season at the helm during the intervening campaigns.

The experiment with Pirlo proved particularly ill-judged, while Sarri was shown the door despite guiding Juve to the title – his successor presided over a fourth-placed finish as the Bianconeri s Scudetto streak ended at nine.

Allegri s return did not usher in an immediate change in fortunes, with Juve taking just two points from their first four Serie A matches. That was their worst start to a season in 60 years and left them in the bottom three.…

David Luiz targets Premier League glory

David Luiz hopes to win the Premier League for the first time with Chelsea after re-joining the club in a surprise transfer deadline day move.

The Brazil international signed for the Blues from Benfica in January 2011, moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.

The 29-year-old was lured back to west London on August 31 in an unexpected swoop by Antonio Conte s team.

A Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup winner during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, David Luiz wants to add the Premier League to his Primeira Liga and Ligue 1 titles.

It is time to do it, he told the Chelsea website.

And I hope it will be this year. I am working hard for that and this is our goal this season. We don t have the Champions League to fight for so for sure we wil…
